The Noank Mystic Community Band serves the south east corner of Connecticut and the south west corner of Rhode Island. We have members from New London, Groton, Norwich, and Westerly RI, to name the larger towns, plus the smaller communities such as Noank and Mystic.
We have three bands within the Noank Mystic Community Band organization.
Noank Mystic Community Band
This is a concert band with a full range of instrumentation, now numbering about 45 musicians. The music is typically at an advanced high school/college level. School-age musicians are welcome to participate at any time. The band rehearses on Wednesdays 7:00-9:00PM in the Noank firehouse. The director is Richard Wyman.
New Horizons Band of Southeastern Connecticut
This band is intended for beginners and people who may have played in the past and are looking to get back into music. The band rehearses on Wednesdays in the Noank firehouse from 2:00- 3:30 pm. The director is Heidi Toala.
" As Time Goes By" (Community Swing Band)
This band performs music from the swing era as well as more modern jazz. The band often plays original arrangements which are challenging and typically call for a set instrumentation ( i.e. four trombones, four trumpets, five saxes, piano, bass, drums, vocalist). Although we normally perform with a set number of players, we welcome additional people at rehearsals and we routinely substitute players for performances. The band rehearses on Thursdays 7:00-9:00 pm at the Groton Senior Center. The director is Ray Poncin.
